Peter Hall
Chairman & Mayor
I work down in Filton as an aerospace engineer, originally from Liverpool, & I moved to Bristol in the nineties. I met my wife there before we moved to Berkeley in 2010, where we live with our little bringers of chaos: chickens, fish, a dog & 2 children. I’m the current town mayor, having been involved in the council for several years now. I’m really keen to improve things for all of us in Berkeley, whether that’s through the improvements we’ve delivered at Park View play area, Canons Park & the Town Hall, through the support we give to local groups, or through our plans to rejuvenate the town centre. If you think the council can do anything to help you, or if you have any ideas, I’d love to hear from you.

I am 75 and have been married to Cherry for 35 years and we have 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Having run my own businesses for 35 years and now retired I felt I would like to put my years of commercial experience to use in support of my local town and residents that I feel is an admirable town and community. I am currently the deputy chairman and have been involved in the renovation and improvement of the Canon park pavilion, the Queens platinum jubilee celebrations and sit on 3 committees. I am keen to progress the town development plans and also welcome requests for help from our local residents.

I was born in Berkeley Hospital and am very much a local person; educated at the old Dursley Grammar school, before my first career at Bristol University, researched the chemistry of cider. In 1973, with my husband and three small children, I went to war torn Ethiopia then Sudan for ten years. After two revolutions and an attempted coup, it was wonderful to return to peaceful Berkeley. I then studied to teach children with severe learning difficulties, a job I loved. On retirement, I became a Town and, for a time, District Councillor. My particular interest is in Planning. I really enjoy meeting and talking to people so volunteer with Stroud foodbank and our fantastic Jenner Museum. Always happy to have a chat and do my best to help you. My particular interests are in the environment and Planning.

I joined Berkeley Town Council in 2021 after moving to the Town Centre with my wife, two children and a chocolate cockapoo. I have lived in Berkeley and Newport (Berkeley) for over 8 years, prior to that I grew up locally near Thornbury. I attended Marlwood School and went to the University of The West of England and later Cardiff University. I am a chartered civil engineer and day to day run large programmes as a project manager. Most of my time revolves around children, but I do enjoy my walks with the dog and playing squash when time allows.
I currently chair the Town Improvements Project Committee where we are looking to revitalise the Town Centre. I also sit on the Exec Committee representing The Gloucestershire Association of Parish and Town Councils (GAPTC) looking at supporting better councils. I look forward to engaging with many of you to make Berkeley the best place to live.

I live in Berkeley with my two enormous children and two ridiculous cats. Originally from Dursley, I moved here in 2006, via uni in Southampton. Both of my boys thrived at Berkeley Primary and enjoyed playing football for Severnside, and we all appreciate the friends we’ve made in the town. Berkeley is a special place to live. I love being in the countryside, near the river and the canal – and being so close to the delights of Bristol. I’ve enjoyed an interesting career in marketing and communications, with plenty of travel. Now I work in marketing for a software company and – since lockdown – work at home pretty much full time. I decided to become a Councillor because – well – someone needs to do it, and it might as well be me. It’s easy to complain about the lack of dog poo bins, or a broken pavement, but people need to get involved to make things happen. I’m a big believer in doing things for the wider good and this is my way of serving my community. As well as contributing to the running of the town, I tend to get involved with anything digital or communications. I’ve really enjoyed working on our sparkly new website and implementing our new logo and brand. I’m also the Chair of the Staffing Committee – making sure we look after the people that work for us.
Things only happen in Berkeley because of the great people that live here pitching in. There are always initiatives the Council is working on that need people power. Show up, get involved, do your bit. I promise you’ll enjoy it. You can email me on [email protected]

My wife and I first moved to Berkeley when we married 43 years ago and have lived in High Street ever since. We have one grown up son who lives with us and who is now a teacher at Berkeley SGS.
I am a chartered mechanical engineer and professional project manager. For the last 30 years my career in the oil and gas industry has taken me to all sorts of strange places around the world. With anno Domini creeping on however, I have now taken a permanent staff job as project manager at a company in Caldicot which means I finally get to go home every evening after work.
Having lived in Berkeley for more than 40 years I wanted to put something back into the society that has supported me and my family throughout most of our adult lives. When the opportunity to join the Town Council came up in March last year, I was only too keen to submit an application and was fortunate enough to be accepted. Since becoming a member of the council I have joined the Planning and Finance Committee and the TIP (Town Improvement Plan) Committee where I hope my experience in project management will enable me to make a useful contribution.
I am very much enjoying my time on Berkeley Town Council. As a team we have a wide range of experience from all walks of life and I feel that we all work pretty well together. Everybody is dedicated to making Berkeley the best possible place for people to live in and I am proud to be a member of this team.
